Good Sam Membership worth the Cost?

I would not belong to Good Sam if it wasn't for the local chapter. Join a chapter and campout once a month with friends, then once a year go to the Samboree and meet camping friends from all over the state.

I'm sure it is for some people and I had it for years myself. I found I could buy what I wanted much cheaper at several other places. As for the GS campground discount we hardly ever stay at a park that honors it so we just dropped it. I don't miss my Trailer life mag. since out of about 70 pages there is a ad for CW on at least 45.
Just not useful to me anymore.

I have never belonged to Good Sam for any discounts.

I belong for the camaraderie and friendships we have formed by participating in the "Club". We attend Samborees and are officers in our local chapter.

Like many organizations, what you get out of it is directly proportional to what you put into it.

When my family was young we joined GS but dropped out when business got in the way of camping. When the kids grew up my wife and I started traveling again; we joined GS. I believe if you are looking at GS only as a means of getting discounts on camping merchandise, you are looking at the club all wrong. It is a club for campers and RVers with more benefits than just discounts.

I have had a Good Sam membership for many years. It is not expensive. I don't purchase a great deal from Camping World, but once or twice a year I usually find something I "really need", so the discount is nice. Many if not most of the campgrounds we travel through offer the GS discount, which is appreciated. I have GS roadside assistance, because I have had the other two big companies and have posted my complaints...that's not to say GS will be better when I needed them, but I hope I never need them. Also, and very important, GS maintains this very nice website that I enjoy visiting. I feel it is only appropriate to support the GS community.

It's worth it for the Magazine, the discounts are pretty meaningless since everything is cheaper elsewhere on-line.

We just spent the last 90 days cruising around the country (28 states) and stopping at mostly GS campgrounds. With the 10% discount, we saved on average $3.50-$4.00 per night. I estimate that we were in GS camps 50 days, so that is nearly $200 in savings for us. Not to mention the discounts we get at CW.

Im a member and i have found great value in it. It has paid for itself in camp ground discounts as well as CW discounts. I also have the roadside but that's a whole different can of worms.
