Maybe the fact that there is no town called Custer, Wyoming slowed them down. I am familiar with Wyoming and the surrounding area and I wouldn't wager my life savings that you were close to Rapid City if you told me you were in Custer, Wyoming. While it is a good bet that you would be near Custer, South Dakota, you could also be near the Little Big Horn National Battlefield, which is informally known as Custer's Last Stand. Then there is a Custer in Montana, a Custer in Washington, Custer Counties in Idaho and Nebraska, the Custer State Park in South Dakota as well as the Custer National Forest, which covers millions of acres. Perhaps the old computer adage "garbage in, garbage out" contributed to your problems.
