After reading hundreds of critiques like this one over the years on many different forums, regarding the failures of the various service providers, I would conclude that the ones that are still in business today, must be providing enough positive outcomes to ensure their existing members will continue to renew their memberships and enough new members will join based on the on their pros versus their cons. The big ones like GSRA, AAA/CAA, Coachnet, have all had their problems, but if they were the rule rather than the exception, they all would have gone under years ago.
It's always a hit or miss proposition when you dial the phone, that depends on the contracted service provider to engage someone on your behalf, and it doesn't always work out well, and there will always be those who get "the wrong person, at the wrong place, at the wrong time" and will write about it on forums like this one. It stands to reason that there are more positive experiences and outcomes than negative, or these companies would just be a memory.
Sometimes you do get what you pay for, but paying more isn't always a guarantee of perfection either. It's the nature of the beast, or in this case, the roadside assistance game.
Here's an example of how the opinions of one, can differ wildly from the opinions of another, even when it's research based.
