Just bought a new motorhome and found out that our insurance carrier (State Farm) doesn't specialize in RV insurance. They put our premium at $6500 a year partly because they were basing it off of the MSRP rather that the actual purchase price (Big difference with new motorhomes).I'm looking at Good sam (National General) insurance and Progressive. Good sam is the cheapest by about 150 a year but the reviews are terrible. A lot of complaints on claims which worries me. I'm strongly considering going with Progressive. Any thoughts?

We have been with Progressive since 2003 with our 5r (1 claim) and our Current MH. Could not be happier, no increase in rates etc. Highly recommend.

I had National Interstate from day 1. (2001) Last year, they got out of the business. I had 2 choices...Liberty Mutual or Progressive. I really didn't care, but my agent called and suggested I go with Progressive. I did. I have no opinion of Progressive...all I know is I have the policy, paid my premium and am covered and legal.FWIW

We did our insurance through Good Sam. I believe they are just a broker in their business. We got a policy from Progressive using Good Sam. We have done a lot of comparisons and no one competes with Progressive, on motor homes. Even another broker, who used Progressive for a quote, could not touch what Good Sam got us. Everything else we have, home owners, two cars, ATV are with State Farm and no one has been able to touch them with a competive quote.One thing to consider in the insurance arena, sometimes use credit ratings to generate a quote.We do the insurance comparison thing every year. It's also difficult to compare if coverages are not equal, between carriers. Also, taking what someone else is getting for a rate needs to include coverages to be a fair comparison. In my opinion, BIG difference between being legal and having appropriate coverage.

Hmm, we looked around too. Then decided to stay with what we have, namely GEICO. I think I'm paying $2300 a yr.

My Progressive policy (verified with my broker) says NO out-of-pocket when a windshield is replaced.

Same thing when I had National Interstate. And by premium did not go up.

Go direct with Progressive. Also found glass coverage with them very reasonable. Have had to make a couple of claims in the last 3 years and they pay the claim with no hassle.

Been with Progressive for years. Guess I had 2 claims, 1 windshield/mirror, 1 awning, and no price increase. Had Good Sam road service years ago and was happy with it until something changed there and the service went down hill. Changed to Coach Net but have only used it once when we were locked out of DP.
