Good Sam RV Park Ratings

Dear Good Sam,
My wife and I have always tried to stay at a Good Sam Park rated "8"or higher with a preference toward the "higher". We are currently traveling from Florida to Oregon on an 8-10 week vacation. In the past a park that is rated "9" or higher has been a great RV experience. On this trip, using your ratings,we ended up in two parks that were not even close to the ratings you gave them. As an example,we stayed in Bear Creek RV Park in Asheville,NC. While part of the park was just ok, all of the pull thru's were directly on the road on a dangerous curve. We cringed every time we heard a car coming. When I expressed my concern to the owner,he told me to leave if I was unhappy. Having no other place to go and plans for the area already set,we stayed. All of the pull thru sites were a "4-5" at best. For the life of me,I cannot understand how the park received a"9.5". It was terrible and the owner down right nasty. I think you guys need to re-evaluate your grading system. One of our favorite parks is close to home in Williston,FL. That park is a "10". Some of your 9.5 parks are not remotely close Please do a better job. I am a loyal Good Sam Member. I purchased my RV at Camping World, have an extended warranty with you ,financed with you and have a road service contract with you. I expect more if I am to trust your rating system.
Thank you,

  • First, no excuse for a campground owner or host to be nasty. This is a customer service business and at least an offer of another site, an expression of concern or a partial refund is in order here.

Having said that, we have rated parks using the GS criteria in our travel directory. We've always come out within one point of the ratings in the book. The rating system is objective and points are scored for grass, swimming pool, level sites, etc. I looked at the site on Google Earth and see why you would be concerned about a large rig on the pull-through sites since they are very close to the road.t But there's no place to rate a site on a curve or a nasty host or owner.

While the OP feels the CG is rated too high, we've stayed at some we feel are rated too low.
  • I don't think there are any points added or deducted for the owner being "downright nasty". Also, if you were to actually look at the criteria they use to score the parks, I think you will find that being on a curve wouldn't be reflected in the score of the sites. It might be uncomfortable for you, but I don't know how you could objectively say how much of a curve is acceptable for an RV site to be located next to. You said you have usually had good luck with the rating system, so it apparently works, but there are probably always going to be parks that you either like or hate that score the opposite. I would crawl through a lion's cage wearing pork chop panties to have a great lobster dinner, my wife wouldn't crawl out of bed for the same. People have different tastes in both food and RV parks.
  • brao... We stayed at Williston Crossing RV Resort, for the forth of July.

there was a cookout for the campers and family..

I love this park.. The owners and management are great.

I am someone who purchases no services from the organization but do participate heavily in the "club" side of things. I want to say thank you for all the money you throw at Good Sam to keep it in business so I can enjoy the "club". :B

I think a lot of use have noticed the same things about ratings. I suspect parks get what they pay for in that regard.

    Absolutely not true.

Check this link out: How Good Sam Parks Are Rated

A search of this site will reveal even more, and not written by Good Sam.
