Good Sam Trip Planner\Ratings

My wife and I just completed a 4000 mile journey to the northeastern part of the US. I used the Good Sam Trip Planner to plan my routes and relied on the Good Sam campground ratings for my reservations. We stayed at about a dozen different places from our first night in Kentucky to New York down to Georgia. Every campground we used with a favorable Good Sam rating was more than acceptable when we arrived. Most of them exceeded our expectations. The software requires a little time to master, but it is a great tool.

Well done Good Sam Club!

Note: Anyone traveling to the New England area should know that many roads are not RV friendly. Also many roads that are RV friendly are also toll roads. Take a sack full of quarters and be prepared. I also recommend a RV Atlas or RV style GPS unit.

Add google earth to your search toolbox We have also found the Good Sam ratings/ reviews fair and accurate, the satellite and street view shows what is around.

Unmoderated review sites allow the kooks. The unhappy always review, the happy do not always, they keep their favorite places to camp to themselves, sometimes even write poor reviews of it in attempt to lower occupancy so its not so busy.

We only give credence to review sites that require membership and a track record of experience. Beware of reviewers without membership, few reviews. Oft times they are venting.

I find Google maps that many mentioned here seems to work well too.

I find that if you can read between the lines in some of the negative reviews they usually can be "weeded out". I also find I look at the dates when left and how current reviews are if any, and you can tell a pattern of when things change for better or worse.

We never leave ratings(good or bad) only because we never used the Good Sam sites or anything. We camped locally for the most part and know which CG's are worth repeating.

But since we started looking into a trip into the Western area of the US, the Good Sam site has been invaluable. So we will make it a point to rate CG's no matter where we say.

I'm glad you mentioned the trip planner worked well for you and the CG ratings were at a minimum what you expected, that eases my mind for the trip we are planning.

You are also correct about New England area roads etc, even the ones that are RV friendly are very poorly maintained off the interstates. As well as you said "get a "couple" stacks of quarters"! Although they are removing toll booths and using the overhead transponders. So if you don't get an "EZ Pass" they will take pic's of your plates and bill you maximum price..

    Thanks
