Good Sams discount

We just got back from a trip where we were offered a chance to sign up for a Good Sam's membership at an early campground. We went ahead and joined and got the 10 percent discount. At our next Good Sams campground we were told that they built the discount into their general rate or we give a discount but everyone gets it. Good Sams number three gave the discount with no questions. Number four said we give the discount but only if you pay by cash or check. Seemed like a way to get out of the discount.

For those who are Good Sams members, is this typical? We don't have Camping World near by so the camping rate reduction was the prime reason for joining. Now that seems uncertain.
  • I don't think that's normal. If you have a Good Sam account, they should give you the discount. Notify Good Sam and let them know the campground name and location. We've never run into that before, and we've used a lot of Good Sam Campgrounds in the last few years. However, they may charge you for using a Credit Card, or something like that. "That" Good Sam probably has no control over.

Hi countrykids, I'm sorry to hear you did not receive the Good Sam discount at these parks.

All Good Sam Parks should honor the 10% Good Sam discount on the nightly rate posted at the park; however, the Good Sam discount doesn’t apply to already discounted rates (such as weekly or monthly deals). There are no blackout dates and the manner of payment shouldn’t matter.

If you can provide the name of the parks that did not honor the Good Sam discount, we will contact them regarding the discount terms they agreed to honor when becoming a Good Sam affiliated park.

I would also like to let you know Good Sam guarantees the 10% Good Sam Club discount. To receive the discount, send your receipt and all the facts about your visit (date, location, price, reason for not receiving the discount) to:

    Good Sam Member Services
    64 Inverness Dr E
    Englewood, CO 80112

We value your membership and thank you for visiting Good Sam Parks while camping in the US and Canada.
  • Good Sam Network, thanks for the reply.

The first visit was for 3 nights so no weekly or longer discount would apply. In the second, method of payment did matter.

I called Good Sam after my post, should have done that first, and their answer was they don't really have control over campgrounds not under their ownership so they can do what they want. I suggested that agreeing to be an "official" park should obligate them to offer the advertised terms. Got nowhere with that. This a different answer I got from you who I assume represents Good Sam In some official capacity.

I am sorry I ever started this. Between the two discounts received and the $25 coupon for first night camping the first year membership is covered. I may just let it go at that. We did this on a trial basis and have 11 months to go. Hopefully results will get better.

Lots of Good Sam members here so experience must vary.
  • We get discounts everywhere and we do NOT belong to Good Sam. Seniors, AARP, Veteran, military, AAA,....all you have to do is ask and they will find a reason to give you a discount.

We used to belong to GS for years and quit after the "change of ownership" screwed up a good customer oriented business.
  • Where would you like the names of parks submitted? I was also just denied the GS discount at a GS park because "we do not offer discounts during summer season"
  • Hoppy220,

Thank you for contacting Good Sam and I am sorry to hear you did not receive your discount. Please send a private message with your phone number and the park's name.

    Thanks,
    Stacy

    X2

The "discounted" rate is the "real" rate. The non discounted rate is the "rack" rate. If the park is run by a smart business person their margins are based on the Discounted rate and the rack is just icing.

So is it a "real" discount? Well not really since almost anyone can get it. But what the membership actually does for you is smooth the path to get out of paying the "rack" or Walk-up rate.

It's nice to have and makes things maybe a bit easier but don't be fooled you really are not getting anything really special.
