Good Sam's Membership Records

My wife and I stopped in Albuquerque for a few days. While riding with some friends, we stopped at Camping World. We did not have our Good Sam's card with us but found a few items we needed. When my wife went to the register, she told the cashier that we did not have our card. The cashier said that was not a problem and asked for our phone number and address. When we gave that to her, she advised us our membership was expired. We informed her that it was not expired as we had just renewed it before we started on this trip, in May, 2013. She insisted it was expired and we were advised to renew it. My wife paid the membership fee again, and we left. Today, we took our Good Sam's card back to Camping World and showed them that it expired in May, 2014. They said that's no problem, that the membership fee we paid yesterday would just renew the membership which would now expire in 2015 and that we would get a new card. It all just seemed like a high pressure tactic to get membership cash well in advance. ( A nice cash flow tactic !) We observed others checking out and many seemed to be getting pressured to renew. What gives with Good Sam's / Camping World ? The strange thing is that on this same trip we encountered a few RV parks which had dropped Good Sam's even though they are in the book. When I combine this experience with the ENDLESS mail from Good Sam's trying to sell me various memberships, I have to admit I'm getting a bad taste and may just drop Good Sams totally when this membership expires. It just isn't worth it.
  • Hi Everyone
    I am Ann Emerson, VP & Publisher of the Directory and Good Sam Park Network, and want to jump in and clarify a few things.

    First, our agreement with Good Sam Parks is for an entire year. If a park is shown as a Good Sam Park in the 2013 Directory, then that park remains in the network throughout 2013 and will honor the discount throughout 2013. It is very rare for us to drop a Good Sam Park during the year. The suggestion to alert Good Sam members about a Good Sam Park that has been dropped from the network during the year is a good one so we’ll find a way to communicate this to Members. Our Directory is very accurate and up to date and can be relied on throughout the year for your travels. We find that our Members rely on both our print Directory and websites when planning travel and while on the road…both are tools to help you find the right park.

    If there is ever any concern about a Good Sam Park not giving our members the 10% discount, then we want to hear about it immediately. When this happens we contact the Park directly and address the problem right away.

    Thanks for the great discussion on this. Please feel free to contact me directly regarding any questions/concerns on a specific park.

    So why promote and sell a book with information that is not current? Do you start knocking off the price as the year goes by because there's a better chance that the information is more out of date?

    It makes no sense to me at all. .

    you not making much sense either :}
  • This is the very reason I prefer the IRV2 forum. You don't get all of the juvenile bickering, from the same players, over and over again.

    Thank you!
  • Some folks just can't be pleased. Hand them a steak on a plate and they'll complain it wasn't lobster.

    With regard to the OP's being told their membership had expired. Very same thing happened to me. I had renewed for a LIFETIME a few months back but I had not received my new cards. They insisted mine was expired. So we left the items on the counter and prepared to depart. It was a big purchase and we weren't going to make it without our discount. Hmmmm. . . Guess what? They found it in the system. Hmmmm. Imagine that. Even then, it took three phone calls and one year before I got my new cards. That's what I call service. :M

    They seem to be slow with cards across the board. I renewed and upgraded to Platinum for Road Side Assistance back in May/June while on the move across country. I gave them my updated mailing address, yet, still no cards or packet....I just keep printing up the 30 expriration card...
