Good Sams To The Rescue!

Early on the evening of Dec.18 my husband smelled smoke in the motor home as we were traveling through southern Alabama. We pulled off as soon as possible and saw smoke billowing from the right front tire. After making sure it wasn't going to burst into flames we were able to pull into a lot that was offered to us by the campground we were in front of. We called Good Sams for help. The gentleman who took our call was very pleasant. We said we would rather someone come out the next day since it was nearly dark. He said someone would call us at 8 a.m. And probably someone out to fix the prolpblem around 9 a.m. Well, there was no call and no repairman the next morning. After a couple of hours, we called Good SAMs again. There had been a mistake made, but they got on the ball and had a mechanic out to us quite quickly. The mechanic verified the brake caliper had stuck. He had to find a part the part for our 2001 Beaver, but he did a very good job and we were pleased. And we were very, very pleased with our treatment by Good Sams. Mistakes can and do happen and we honestly feel that the original person. We spoke to just made a mistake. Thank you, Good Sams for getting us back on the road.

I read this and another post saying the same.

My question is what do people expect to happen when they call up a third party service located in some place perhaps far far away from them asking for fuel?

While I keep some diesel on hand for the tractors I can tell you if I was in the road side service business and had no diesel I would toss a fuel can in the truck and get some along the way. You did get lucky your truck started OK after running out of diesel.

Not sure why a tow service would be in business in TX that could not tow a PU truck either.

When you get a smart phone or other connected computer you will have access to the local database of road service options so you can talk with the company that is coming to your aid so your stress level is not as high on a Sunday morning.

Again it does not make sense a tow company does not have access to diesel fuel or cannot tow a PU truck in TX of all places.

Good Sam, AAA, etc provide service that some really enjoy and need. I think a lot of DIY type guys are better off thinking for themselves as you pointed out. This does not negate the value of road side assist to others however in my mine that calls for double posting on a road side assist company website.

  • I've used my Good Sam's Roadside membership a couple of times: one blown tire on the trailer, the other after I hit a deer with my car on the way to work. The service was good in both cases, and it's cheaper than CAA.
