Great Service this weekend!
Our original plans had been to camp out in the Organ Mountains campground - Aguirre Spring BLM. Nice cozy spot on the northeast side of a mountain with no hookups and only $8/night and excellent views and hiking.
That was until we decided to make it a 4-day weekend and go to Big Bend instead. One of our favorite spots in Texas. Plus full hookups. We live in El Paso, and Big Bend is about 6 hours away in a rig doing 65MPH. Made it to about the half-way point Friday and the water pump goes out in the tow vehicle. There we are on the side of a state highway, an hour or more in either direction to civilization.
So the wife gets on the phone with roadside assistance. I just didn't realize it wasn't the right one. She called GEICO's. What a mess. This girl told us, among other things, that there wasn't anything in El Paso. She tried to get us towed to Fort Worth and have us leave the trailer behind. That's when I knew something wasn't right. I asked if she called Good Sams Roadside Assistance. No? Lemme get my card out and make the call. No problems. Nearest place was in Van Horn, about an hour away, back towards El Paso. Good Sam got on the phone with several repair shops there and found one who claimed they could tow both the truck and the trailer, and get us on the road by the next day. They also had a salvage lot and let us stay there for teh night. Sure am glad I included 1/3 tank of freshwater for the road knowing we were headed to a full hookup. LOL. Was wishing I had done more. Anyways, had great a time as possible in the junk yard.
Next day we were back on the road back towards El Paso since we spent most our gas money on the water pump of the tow vehicle. We went through El Paso, stopped at the Campoing World, dumped, got a full tank of water and continued on to our original camping plans, Aguirre Springs. Had a great time there.
Thanks Good Sam for taking care of us!
