As a long time Life Member, I am very disappointed in my Good Sam ERS response today. We had a blowout with rim damage on our class a pusher yesterday due to a bad road. Needed a 22.5 tire and rim. Closest available was in Idaho Falls, 80 miles away. They only had a used tire but I was told by GS rep they could not authorize used tire and would not cover cost of tire or rim, but would cover service call. Otherwise we would have to wait two or three days on the side of the road for new tire. This was not an option so we opted for used tire to get back on the road. Jack's Tire and Oil of Idaho Falls did an excellent job and got us back on the road.Now, here is the problem I had with GS ERS. After the service tech arrived on site GS ERS refused to cover ANY of the cost including the Service Charge. I had to pay for everything! Not pleased with GS as to the way this was handled. Looks like I will not be renewing my ERS UNLESS THIS GETS RESOLVED. Why pay for a service that does not do as they claim?Update: Now Sep 12 and nothing from GS on our reimbursement.

I believe according to their brochure the only thing they are supposed to pay for is the service call which they should have done. It is your responsibility to pay for the tire and or rim.Flat Tire ServiceA service technician will replace a flat tire with an eligible vehicle’s inflated spare, if possible, or we will tow the vehicle to the nearest professional service center. On occasion and whenever possible, we will make arrange-ments for the Member or Associate to purchase a tire(s) for deliv-ery to the disablement scene. In these cases Good Sam Platinum+ Roadside Assistance will pay for delivery of the tire only, Member is responsible for all additional costs including cost of tire(s), mounting, balancing, other parts or labor, tax and any other fees. Note: This benefit does not include seasonal tire changes. Member or Associate is responsible for all parts and labor

The thing that stands out in your story for me is the tire. Idaho Falls is a big place with Truck Stops and Truck Tire Dealers. A 22.5 Tire and rim are the most commonly used size on Tractor Trailers and can be found everywhere. Why they could not find that tire for you is a mystery to me.There is a Les Schwab Tires in Idaho Falls and they have 24/7 tire service for commercial type tires.Something is fishy about GSRSA not being able to find a 22.5 tire in Idaho Falls. ANY time of day or night.Good luck and I hope GSE makes this right for you.

I am starting to believe that these issues stem from the Call center where they may not know where to go for a commercial sized tire or may not even know the difference between a tire for the average pick-up and a Class A with 22.5's. I am becoming more convinced than ever that many of these issues are call center/education related. Not simply economic.

Just received a phone call from Mr. White. He said they are going to reimburse me for service call and the extra hassle endured. Also received another phone call confirming my address. "Check's in the mail."

Just went through my mail as we just got home this weekend. Lots of mail from GS for insurance, Heath Travel card, sales catalogs, refi information and extended coverage. Interestingly not a single mail from you on this claim.

Why is it necessary to fill out any paperwork and put the burden on the customer? The service provider was told that GS would reimburse them before they left the shop. They drove eighty miles and were then informed that GS would not pay for the call. This is putting an undo financial demand on the customer and not showing good faith to the provider who stated at the time that this is not the first time they have been screwed by GS.

We are now home. Sent a PM to Rudy that same day as requested and no further response from Good Sam at all. It should not be necessary to have to fill out any additional paperwork to have GS Fulfill their contract for services. They have no problem contacting me when it's time to renew! Still no resolution. As noted above, easier to just pay for the service call than to have ANOTHER dissatisfied customer. Posting this to GS FB page also.

I assume that not all tow companies are going to take the time to track down a tire. Most of them dont sell tires of any kind. That would be up to GSRSA to find the tire and tell the Tow co. Where to get it.

there are two different things going on here. Towing a Motor home is one thing. Tire service is another.

If they are calling the wrong kind of tire store/service then that is an educational problem at the call center.

The reason I don't really think it is all economic based is that in virtually all of the cases where the OP comes back to explain what GSRSA did for them. They were completely re-imbursed.

Going through all of this to issue a reimbursement check is far more costly to GSRSA than paying the normal way and having a happy customer.
