Is Camping World selling personal data ?

I received a phone call last night , 7:40 PM, from a firm identified as Trident Marketing 551-2871 ( no area code shown ). They said they called in half of Camping World to offer me a resort stay at a reduced rate. Supposedly, the resort is partially owned by Camping World.

While normally, I would discount everything said by any phone call like that, they did identify me as an RV owner, and that did throw me off.

I tried to call Good Sam but got conflicting responses.

Has anyone else received such a call, and were concerned about it ?
MANY companies do HARVEST data for money, feeling it to be in THEIR best interest, financially !

  • Well ... I found out the REAL story.
Trident Mktg , is owned by TRAVEL RESORTS of AMERICA.. an RV campground membership / ownership club. They are based in N. Carolina, and GOOD SAM / CAMPING WORLD shares data with them , which includes customer information.

All this is coordinated by COAST TO COAST .. a Good Sam subsidiary based in Denver.

A call just came to me confirming all of this.
I am having MY info removed ... others may choose to do that, as they want to.
  • Good Points Gomer !

When I tried to call their Corporate Offices today ... I was met with INTENSE hostility, and a REFUSAL to comment on it, and nobody in marketing would take my call.

After 4-5 calls... they blocked my phone number from the switchboard, and I went directly ro a rapid disconnect.

I hid my number.. and THEN got through another 3 times.

STILL ... nobody would come to the phone and I do not have the option of OPTING OUT of calls.

    I will continue ....
  • Yes.

These kinds of cross marketing deals are along the lines of "we call your customers and sell them something...if they buy we give you (camping world) a cut". Its a very risky way to do business as it can piss off your customers.

IMO it shows that a company is out to monetize their customers rather than form a long term relationship. OTOH, RV'ers in general are an older crowd the idea of a long term relationship might not be a consideration.
