Issue with Roadside Assistance

On the 28th of September our rear slide would not come in and we were stuck at Disney World. I will say I am thankful to be stuck there rather than on the side of I-4 but we contacted Good Sam for assistance. They responded quickly and within the hour I recieved a text from their vendor Road Service Inc. LLC stating a technician would be there in a couple of hours. Before he got there I got a call from from Road and explained the issue(s). Somewhat abruptly the guy on the line told me that everything I told him I had created and he told not to mess with anything. Now I am not a mechanic but I have been around and am not a complete idiot, but I let that comment go an waited for the mechanic.

The mechanic got there and was a nice enough young man who worked part time for Road Service but his primary job was working on Fire Apparatus at the airport. He had never worked on a Bluebird and it took some time for him to find the selenide and release valves. A Bluebird used a pneumatic seal and neither of us could find the release for the air lock and seal. After an hour and a half I talked to the mechanic and we both agreed that he was just guessing and he would not be able to get the slide retracted. He was actually told by the company to advise me that he would stay until he fixed the problem. He told them he would not do that.

A day or 2 later I got a charge of $610.65 for the call. Now I expected a minimum charge for 2 hours service @ $195/hr but did not have any idea what the extra $200+ was for. I have called good Sam several times and so far only got a apologetic letter which was vague regarding to what action GS took. I have call Road Service 4 times and still do not have an itemized bill. I have had to dispute the charge as I can't get any information for either Road Services or Good Sam. Why a company based out of Maassechusettes would provide service in Florida is beyond me. The mechanic they sent would have likely been able to fix a mechanical problem but without any Bluebird experience he just didn't know enough about the system.
The following day I contacted Parliament motor coach in clearwater and was passed to a tech that specialized in Bluebirds. He walked me through a few of the probable caused and told me where the various components were located. With his help and probably a little luck in about an hour I hade the slides in and the jacks retracted and hit the road.
I am disappointed in how Good Sam has handled my complaint and very disappointed in the vendor Road Service Inc. LLC.

This isn't the way it should go.

  • From what I understood GS would pay the travel charges which I think might be the extra 200.00 in charges. Oh course without a invoice I am just guessing. Just haven't got much in the way of straight answers. I understood I would have a minimum 2 hour charge, but it sure would be more satisfying if they would have fixed the problem. The mechanic was a nice guy and I am sure a good mechanic and he was honest enough not to try to stay longer when he was told to do so. I will follow up with GS for the fourth time tomorrow.
  • They must be absolutely mad to charge that much for not fixing it.
Can you imagine what they would charge if they could actually fix it?
  • Wait...I truly wonder if this "Road Service, LLC" is the SAME outfit that reamed two other posters.
  • I wouldn't mind paying if the guy they send out is a skilled tech. To send out some guy that isn't any smarter than I am is about what I expect from GS. GS ERS lost my business couple of weeks ago when the RVer had to talk to 5 different people before finding one smart enough to send someone out to fix his tire. I got on the phone and signed up for Coach Net for 3 years after that post.
  • not sure if it would come to 200 but they also get paid to show up. when my A/C went out I had to pay 106 for them to come and than 86.00 hr for service. sorry to hear they are still using that service as I believe GSRA promised to drop them a few months ago for overcharging
