Just a Heads Up on Good Sam UPDATE
My first instance of using GSRA and I'm just ..... Venting because I DID get a free tow to a 'repair facility'.
Our RV broke down near Waelder Texas @ 8:00 last night. About 10:30 the agent, Tamera, finally called me back with the good news that she'd finally found a tow truck driver to come get us & a repair facility that could fix us up in Luling Texas, about 30 minutes away. She said she'd talked to someone @ GT Automotive and that, based on the information I'd provided of what the RV was doing, it was a fairly simple fix and would be about $$.
About 1:00 this morning we dropped off the RV at GK Automotive, which is a tin building with a hand painted sign on the front with the same phone number listed as GSRA had given me. Also stated was "Emergency Number 24/7" under that number.
The tow driver nicely dropped us off at a motel in town since we don't have a gennie. I had left the RV keys in GK Automotives mailbox with a note taped to their door.
About 7:30 this AM I was back up trying to get in touch with GK Automotive about fixing my RV. I tried about a dozen times between 7:30-9:00 without even getting an answer machine. So I called GSRA back to update them & the bottom line was they don't even know if this repair facility is open on Saturday or not!! All they are required to do is find a facility that verifies they can work on the RV & quotes me a price to fix it. And SINCE that is what transpired, they cannot/will not authorize another tow to a facility that can fix the RV today.
Luckily I have family that will drive the 2.5 hours to pick up me, my son, & our kitten so we are not stranded all weekend long.
So MAYBE GSRA might start asking when the repair MIGHT be done so that information could be passed along to the consumer so they could plan accordingly. Or at least the shop hours. What if they got a repair facility owner who stated that yes they could fix the RV BUT failed to mention they were going on vacation for the next week or so?
I, for one, would have liked to know last night that my RV wouldn't be repaired until Monday. My family would have come & gotten us last night & I wouldn't have had to spend the time/$$/effort to find a hotel to stay in for a night.
