First- I just received Good Sam's current issue, where Marcus, (the CEO, I believe) asked for feedback on the Road Club on this forum. So I took the opportunity. Some of you people need a better hobby!
Second- The point of this post is, I was stuck on the EVE OF A MAJOR HOLIDAY, 70 MILES FROM MY HOME, WITH FAMILY AND DOGS... Could the rules have been 'bent' to not leave me in a strange, small town for at least 36 hours at an unknown car dealer?
Sorry to disagree but I don't think you have a valid point. You coverage says it will tow you to the nearest repair facility. It does not say to the nearest "open" repair facility. My water pump went out on my Cummins last year while on vacation. It was Saturday afternoon. Coach-net offered to tow me to the nearest facility which was 90 miles away. I call the repair shop and they were closing, said they would "look" at it on Tuesday. I made some calls and got it repaired on Sunday morning and went on my way. Cost me $600 but I salvaged my vacation. For $100 or less per year surely you would not expect them to eat the cost of the tow all the way back to your house. That is not what you paid for. If you want that kind of coverage it is going to cost more than $100 per year. There are other coverages you can buy to cover rental cars, hotels, transportation back home but that is not covered in a normal roadside assistance plan. You will need some sort of travel insurance for that and it will cost some $$. Sometimes when you travel things happen. That is just the chance you take. You just have to adapt and be prepared to take care of yourself. Rent a car or call a friend/family member to come and get you.
Sorry about you misfortune but it is not Good Sams fault.
