First- I just received Good Sam's current issue, where Marcus, (the CEO, I believe) asked for feedback on the Road Club on this forum. So I took the opportunity. Some of you people need a better hobby!
Second- The point of this post is, I was stuck on the EVE OF A MAJOR HOLIDAY, 70 MILES FROM MY HOME, WITH FAMILY AND DOGS... Could the rules have been 'bent' to not leave me in a strange, small town for at least 36 hours at an unknown car dealer?
Your agreement with Good Sam Emergency Road Service is to tow to the nearest repair facility.
You need to answer this question for everyone: Why do you think the agreement does not apply to you?
I appreciate your predicament last Thanksgiving. It was a bad situation. I have been in similar bad situations. I hope you and I never are in another one. However, does your bad situation on a holiday make the agreement invalid? Suppose it was Confederate Memorial Day (don't laugh- it is a holiday observed by a few Southern states)- would the exception you think you deserved apply for that day? Your Holiday was "ruined" by your breakdown and your unwilling to pay a difference to have your vehicle towed the extra distance.
I can't help but wonder why your relatives did not come rescue you so you did not have to spend the Holiday weekend in the closed repair facility's parking lot. If they actually left you there, then I think you were better off stranded in a parking lot than sharing the dinner table with them!
I am no fan of Good Sam and Affinity Group, but in this case I think they did the right thing.
