I assume it would still be free if the distance to another location was the same as or less than that to the authorized service center. But that would be something to check on.
When I needed to have our minivan towed GSER Did tow my van home instead of the nearest service center. I requested it, and home was closer than the repair center they wanted to use, so tow to home it was, no extra fee, but let me repeat! Home was closer than the service center, and we were happy with that. YMMV
