Memebership Cancelled

Hello Marcus, Thought you might be interested to know I just cancelled my membership after renewing 2 weeks ago. I was in your store in Avondale, AZ to purchase a couple of stainless drinking glasses and the salesman asked if I would like to renew my membership. I decided to renew it fo another year and was informed if I would renew for 2 years, 1 year would be free. I told him sure but I didn't want the the 2nd year refund in the form of a merchandise certificate, either send a check or credit back on my American Express card. At that time I was told no problem, that will be the way I get my $25 refund. Yesterday in the mail I received my new membership cards attached to guess what !! just what I told the salesperson I did not want. I tried to speak to someone to get my $25 back but was told sorry that is the way the 2 year renewal program works. So after 8 years of being a Good Sam Member I was told the only way to get my money was to cancel. Fine send me my money, I do not appreciate being told something that is different than what the real payment will be.

  • A Camping World employee makes a mistake and you condemn the club? I wonder why you were a member to start with if you will cancel your membership over such a frivolous issue.
  • I am a brand new member of Good Sam Club. I received an offer that I would receive a $25.00 merchandise certificate if I joined. Got my cards in the mail along with certificate. Great! I need a couple things so I went online to Camping World and when I entered the coupon code it said wasn't valid. What? Called GS and they transferred me to Camping World. Was told, like above, have to pay full price then mail them the certificate. What kind of bull is that? The certificate doesn't mention any restrictions. In this electronic age there is no reason to not be able to apply it. It may not be a major problem "first world problem", but it definitely is shady practice and leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Thoughts of cancelling my membership, not sure yet if I will, but not sure I'll renew either. By the way, this isn't a "coupon", it's a "rebate". Maybe if they were just honest about it.

And this isn't some "low level" employee making a mistake. This is company policy.
  • Bye Bye Camping World. I made my purchase from Amazon, $10.00 cheaper than you so you can keep your lousy $25.00 certificate, I'll just throw it away, along with your GS bumper sticker. Will never buy anything from Camping World again. One more purchase of RV parts on Amazon and I will have saved more than your $25.00 anyway, but you lost a sale and all future sales. Maybe you don't care. Nice way to run a business. I'll keep your GS membership for the discounts on camping. Definitely won't be purchasing any other GS services like roadside assistance.
  • That mail in certificate policy is really dumb.
People are looking for convenience and value. I don't think Camping World offers either. The whole idea of online shopping is to find it easy, get a good price, order it easy and have it delivered quickly. If you have to physically mail in a coupon and then wait 6 weeks to see if your account was credited, I'm just not going to participate.

Camping World just sent me an email a few days ago announcing a huge discount on a Coleman LXE grill (not that I need one). The advert bragged about the big percentage discount on the grill, resulting in a price that I can beat by a large margin just by visiting any local big box store on any day.

I honestly do not know how these guys stay in business.
Being lied to like the OP was would seal the deal for me too. Yes, he was just one employee, but he certainly understood his sales mission to push for getting membership renewals, didn't he? You'd think he would understand how the program should work...or did he intentionally lie to seal the deal? Used car dealers have been doing that for 75 years.
  • Hello bobinbako,

I apologize for expereince you have had with the 25.00 merchandise certificate.
I will share you comments with the leadership team for review of the current policy. Please let me know if I can assist with other concerns.

    Safe travels,
    Ella

  • Seems to me the purpose of the certificate is to get you INTO THE STORE!
  • I too, have had more bad experiences than good at camping world.
I get really pissed when lied to for a commission, doesn't matter how trivial.
