National General Rate Increases

I have had insurance since 2016 with Good Sam Insurance (Natl. General).

Since 2016, my premium has gone up OVER 100% with no changes to policy, and no claims.

Can Good Sam recommend another carrier, because these increases are beyond insane. I will also be checking with the DOI in California.

Thanks for any assistance!

  • Just an update for other members.

GS reached out to me and provided quotes from other carriers they deal with.

I was given an excellent quote with the same coverages at a significant premium reduction.

    Way to go Good Sam!
  • Howdy!

I’ve had the same problems withNG insurance. I refused to renew with them after have multiple problems with them over my first and only claim involving a simple windshield replacement. I switched back to USAA and should have never left.

  • At Good Sam we write with National General, Progressive, Safeco and Foremost. Some carriers have taken more rate in CA. In the case of National General the DOI has asked them to quit offering several discounts which have caused rates to increase. Give us a call and we can quote you with several other carriers to compare rates.

Good Sam is not going to recommend a competitor insurance company. Call some reputable companies, compare apples to apples and see if Good Sam is competitive with the others or not and make an informed decision on who to purchase your coverage from. Include the company you have your vehicles and home owners with. You might get a good price having things bundled. For me my RV is covered by Progressive. They offered the most coverage for the least money. Don't mistake that with them being cheap though because they aren't. None of them are, but nothing about owning an RV is cheap as I'm sure you know. Good Luck

This is the best answer. Asking on an internet forum for your current carrier to suggest a cheaper alternative is just plain, excuse me, stupid. Insurance is like any other consumer product, the consumer must do comparative shopping himself or accept being over charged.
  • All the discount carriers, GEICO, Progressive, etc offer low rates to new clients in the hope of gaining your business, and as renewals come around start moving you back to the higher rates in hopes you don't bother shopping around. Every third year, it's a good practice to comparasion shop.
