- DryCreekExplorerWell, regionally there is a lot of competition here. Both Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's (now merged) have better prices, better selection and bigger stores. I can see why they failed here in Texas. I just can't believe how much higher their ammunition and firearms prices are compared to the competition. Even their outdoorsy-type stuff is much higher than their competition. A coworker has described Gander Mountain as "an overpriced Academy".
Maybe Lemonis can turn them around. If he does, and that adds one more spot welcoming overnight RVer's, well then that is a bonus for us all. - DutchmenSportExplorerCheck this out: Came out today: Click here.
- BadgerMcAdamsExplorerA friend of mine does a lot of bass fishing...He practically lives at the Gander Mountain store in Amarillo Texas. Hopefully that store will stay open...That is all in the way of a "Major" hunting and fishing store. After that it is Wally World.
- pconroy328ExplorerI grew up in Wisconsin, about 40 mins from the original Gander Mountain. While I was probably 8 years old the only time I went to the store, my recollection is that it was a small A-frame store.
I was surprised to see the name surge a few years ago but, in the end, it looks like they couldn't compete. - DutchmenSportExplorerWell, on March 14 this year, USA Today ran an article that Gander Mountain is closing 32 stores nation wide. Reading the article from a Good Sam perspective, I think this is a good thing. I just wonder if the name of the business will continue to be retained, "Gander Mountain" or will it become "Good Sam's Mountain?" :B
- Dick_BExplorerI actually never heard of either company so I doubt I'd be buying from them. I really like LLBean with their free shipping.
