Had a blowout on the truck this morning and called my Good Sam Emergency Roadside Assistance. The operator was very polite, took my information and contacted Jack Rabbit Networking Service, who called someone to come help me. They told me it would be an approx. 2hr wait. With all the tow providers around it should have been much less of a wait, so I asked who they contacted. Les Schwab was the provider they contacted so I called them to get an updated timeframe. Les Schwab informed me that they were quite busy today and that they might not be able to make it out to help me. There was no follow up with my Good Sam Roadside Assistance, so I called them back to inform them that Les Schwab wasn't going to make it anytime soon. Not sure what would have happened if I didn't make the calls, could have still been sitting there. Anyway, they ended up calling another provider. Thankfully a kind elderly man came and asked if I needed help. He had the tools and we changed the tire. I'm an elderly physically disabled man that has various mobility issues, that's one reason why I have various insurance like Roadside Assistance, but here I am jacking up the vehicle and changing a tire because my Roadside Assistance isn't there for me. Changing the tire took us about 30 minutes and I decided to buy the man lunch, it was the least I could do for helping me. I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance and cancelled the service request. About 45 minutes have passed now and finally a tow company showed up.
I have a few problems with the service I received. Why am I dealing with Good Sam if "Jack Rabbit" is handling the service call to call someone out to help me? Why was there such a lack of communication that nobody knew that Les Schwab wasn't going to come help me? Nobody would have known if I hadn't called them? Why was there no follow through to see if everything was going as planned?
I was with AAA Roadside Assistance for approx. 15yrs before going with Good Sam Roadside Assistance and never had such an issue. I'm considering moving back to them at this point. They only offer 3 calls per year, but at least the service was there and relatively fast. I just feel that I have been treated wrongly and from what I can tell of other posts, I'm not alone. This lack of service will destroy the good name of Good Sam.
