question about affect on rate if moving to FL

Hello.

Question background:
I'm a full-timer living in my fifth wheel. I'm domiciled and currently reside in South Carolina, where I purchased a Good Sam's sponsored insurance package through National General Insurance on my F350 and trailer. I used my address at the apartment where I lived in Greenville SC prior to moving into the RV about 2 months ago. I purchased my rig in May, so when 7 months passes, I'll move my domicile to Florida and am considering Good Sam's mail service and address located in Crestview, Florida, Okaloosa County.

Question:
Will my insurance be re-rated to a risk profile associated with the address in Crestview? I'm from Tampa, so if the answer is YES, then my premiums will increase dramatically (I fear.) I my fear is true, then it seems more logical to find a mail service no located in hurricane alley.

Thoughts?

  • I bought my current auto/trailer package from Good Sam Vehicle Insurance Plan and they placed it with National General for a South Carolina address. I'm relocating my domicile to either FL or TX (which is cheaper?) and using either Escapees TX or Good Sams FL mailing service physical address. GS insurance writes the risk as a pool for an entire state, not a particular address. TX FL vs TX decision.
  • Moving from State to State gets a little more complicated. When we move, we become new Customers with same Company, but different address to deal with.

Find an Agent who can quote you on multiple companies and/or both states for comparison.
  • too many variables, just start checking around.

I think you can do better than good sams for both insurance and mail service.

and there is a difference if you are permanent in florida than a full timer.
  • Insurance rates are based on MANY variables

Age, single/married, driving history, credit report, vehicle, location etc.

So yes a change in location will affect your rates.

We full timed....domicile in Sioux Falls, SD. Looked at changing domicile to TX.
Change in address only.policy exactly the same. Ins. rate would have increased by 50%.
Changed address to Rapid City, SD....same policy. Slight increase in rate due to 'tourist area'.

    YES.....location matters.

Contact your ins. carrier directly (call the number on your ins. card)
  • Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.
  • This is an RV forum owned and run by the company that owns Good Sam
You need to call an agent to get your answers.
  • Tampa is in Hurricane country also.
Last time it was visited by Wilma.
    Wilma damage at Tampa

Probably no big change in price. May be cheaper from a area not as large as Tampa.
