Question re GS Travel Assist PREMIER UPGRADE

This upgrade info came with our renewal for regular GSTA.

It indicates that if I need better medical treatment than provided in my "Home Hospital", then GSTA Premier will arrange and pay for my evac to a hospital that GSTA determines is capable of providing appropriate medical treatment.

Not sure what "Home Hospital" is. Did not see it in Program Definitions.

My guess is that "Home Hospital" would be the FIRST facility that GSTA sends me after finding me on the side of the road, unconscious, with a dent in my head.....and a cast iron frying pan, lying close by.

Was that a good guess?

Thanks

  • Emergency Medical Evacuation from Inadequate to Adequate medical facility while traveling is available with both Good Sam TravelAssist and Good Sam TravelAssist Premier. If you were traveling, the Home Hospital Evacuation benefit would not apply.

The Emergency Medical Evacuation benefit would take you to the nearest medical facility (to the inadequate hospital) that would be capable of fully treating the condition.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. I was supposing we were far away from our home in OR.

Let's say we are in AZ and somehow a frying pan hit my head and I am taken to a local AZ hospital. They decide a need a brain surgeon in Portland, OR.

How does that square with the provisions? Was the AZ hospital my "Home Hospital"?
  • Thank you for your question, Noel. Actually, you are on the right track! “Home Hospital” would be defined as any hospital in your home area. I’ll try to explain the benefit another way:

While the program does not have mileage restrictions, each paid benefit of Good Sam TravelAssist and Good Sam TravelAssist Premier (i.e. RV Return, Return of Mortal Remains, Emergency Medical Evacuation from Inadequate to Adequate Medical Facility, etc.) is available to you only when you are outside of your normal daily routine. The Evacuation from Home Hospital benefit, essentially, removes the “outside your normal daily routine” requirement from the Emergency Medical Evacuation benefit.

So, yes, if you were hit over the head with a frying pan in your kitchen, taken to a hospital at which they did not have the expertise or facilities necessary to completely deal with that sort of medical emergency, and needed to be evacuated to another hospital that does, Good Sam TravelAssist PREMIER would arrange and pay for that evacuation.

In addition to the Home Hospital Evacuation Benefit, Good Sam TravelAssist Premier adds the following Paid Benefits to the list of Good Sam TravelAssist Paid Benefits:

Paid Pet Lodging and/or Return (if the member becomes hospitalized)
Paid Flight Home (and Return of RV/Vehicle) if your home is made uninhabitable by a natural disaster
Paid Flight Home (and Return of RV/Vehicle) if a family member is hospitalized or passes away
Paid Upgraded Transportation to Home Area after Stabilization if medically necessary
Paid Nurse Escort during Transportation to Home Area after Stabilization if medically necessary

Please see the Plan Descriptions at www.goodsamtravelassist.com for details and feel free to call:
