Quote of Extended Service Plan

I just received my quote of the Extended Service plan. After reading it, I am to the point I don't think it really would cover a lot. It states the it only covers parts that are original equipment, or replaced items by an authorized shop/dealer. Plus the way I understand it, it does not cover after market add one's.
My coach is 7 years old and believe me I had had a lot of major items replaced. I guess I just wanted yawl's opinion. Thanks

  • Good Sam ESP has both an "exclusionary" plan, which means that it covers all parts that are NOT specifically excluded, and we also have a lower priced "inclusionary" (parts named) plan, which covers all parts that are listed. I agree, the exclusionary coverage is broader and our preferred plan, but the inclusionary plan works better for some customers who know their units well and want to keep the costs down.

To me, the decision about extended service is easy. I don't buy any on any product because over the course of a lifetime I believe that I would spend more money with than without. If I can't afford to repair a product, then I can't afford to have it. Extended warranties are much to favor the seller, not the buyer.

This had always been my attitude, but when we bought the 5th wheel my wife insisted on adding the extended warranty. To my surprise, it paid for itself twice in five years.
Don't know about the Good Sam Extended Service Plan ...YET - but I will. Just bought it and it goes into effect November 1st.

  • I did not look at Good Sam ESP but it sounds like "Parts Named" A better one, by far, is "Exclusionary"......wherein only the excluded parts are named and everything else is covered.
  • The Good Sam Extended Service Plan will not cover modifications or add ons to your drive train system, like Banks systems, but it will cover any of the typical appliances, electronics and accessories listed in the policy even if they have been replaced or added after the fact. They must be properly installed to be covered.
  • Although some people luck out and a very expensive item gets replaced it seems to me most of the things covered are not the items that fail. I have had 2 RVs with an extended policy. I never collected anything. You can cash cash them in when you sell but not much comes back. I've decided not to have an extended policy on my MH. I have even thought about dumping the tow svc and then add it back to my insurance policy where I pay and get reimbursed. That way don't have to wait for all the approvals for towing or repairs.
