Really disappointed

The guy who sold us the policy raved about how comprehensive this coverage was, even tires!

But apparently, it did NOT include replacing a leaky valve stem on the tire on a brand new five month old RV. Obviously a defect, obviously not wear and tear related.

What else will suddenly turn out to be "not covered" as soon as I file a claim?

I'm going to cancel this policy.

Bob, to bed honest we didn't check into the mfgr's warranty--we just called Good Sam because it occurred on a Sunday and we had no other option for getting back on the road where we were. The Roadside Assistance membership covered the "service call", but we were liable for $87, a prearranged 'book' price, in parts and labor--for what turned out to be a five minute service call. We already had the rig up on jacks to protect the rim so they didn't even have to do that. For $87, you could argue that we actually paid for most of the service call too.

And no, we didn't read the 'fine print' in the policy, but reasonably speaking who, after being told that this extended warranty policy covers tires--the salesman bragged on that point over and over--would not have expected a faulty valve steam to be covered? Anyway, the experience just points out what a poor decision it was to buy this coverage. (I thought so anyway: we'd have to have over $4000 in repair expenses to even break even--better to put that money in the bank and consider ourselves self-insured.)

What we should have done is punctured the tire with a knife--THEN it would have been covered.

I see, I was just wondering why you did not use the factory warranty, you can always submit the bill to the manufacturer but they usually will not pay for the service call, just the repair. For future reference remember, its rare the extended coverage policies re ever worth the money spent unless its a used motorhome, it would take an awful lot of work to make back that 4,000.
  • Bob, I completely agree with you. This is our second rig from the same mfgr; we bought our first one used/out of warranty and had all the records from it's prior owner. And in spite of the fact that all her expenses and all of ours that would have been covered by an extended warranty come nowhere close to the aforesaid four grand, my husband couldn't be talked out of it. I'm still working on him, though!

We'd be better off spending the cash on earthquake insurance--which we don't have, and this is our only primary living space!

Honestly, look at what is covered and what is required of you to get it covered and its just not worth it, most of the components in a new RV are warranted by the suppliers for 2 years (Dometic , norcold, etc )a dealer talked me into a warranty once, when I got the policy and read the exclusions I cancelled.

You're correct. We did not buy a GS Warranty till after the factory warranty passed. Still, we bought the exact policy and full well know what is not covered. I must've called the salesperson from GS back 4 or 5 times asking questions, had him send me paperwork to read, etc. before we decided. We went with GS because we are part time RV'ers and the cost of Wholesale Warranties was not worth it to us. Were we full time RV'ers we would have gone with Wholesale Warranties.
  • Ok, I'm confused...National General is Liability/Collision/Comprehensive coverage, not an Extended Service Plan. GS ESP is a different product than what was requested by the OP. So why are we talking about ESP?
  • I'm new to Forum and have info on my problem with RV coverage. Don't know if this is the right place to vent.

  • With National General insurance formerly GMAC why if you have full time coverage, they do not insure electrical problems within your coach? haven't been to pleased with National General since they changed their name from GMAC. I am a Good Sam member with them, but I seem to get jerked around with NG more then GMAC ever could do. I have read my policy, I once had home owners insurance with GMAC, once they changed the name my policy changed and I was never sent any mail of a policy change until I attempted to login on my GMAC online statement and discovered my policy number had changed. What was once covered, has completely changed. Why is that? What types of insurance do others have besides national general? I sure would like to know. And what are your experiences with other companies? Do they take Good Sam or not? Curious here. Thank you.
