replacing dometec refrigerator

My Dometec 2 door 8cf refer developed a leak and has to be replaced. Good Sam will only repair not replace nor will they pay for necessary removal of the dinette window per camping world Denton TX. I may be able to understand not paying for a new unit (I am paying the difference.) But I strongly object to paying 3 labor hours for the removal. This is normal part of repair and should be paid. Thanks

  • Good Sam will repair the refrigerator which means they will replace the cooling unit. I do not believe they need to remove the dinette window to replace the cooling unit. Why should they pay for it. It is you who decided to REPLACE the refrigerator. If it were me I'de put in a new Amish cooling unit and be done with it.
  • I put in an amish unit and still have cooling problems!

I thought the refer had to taken out to repair? Thanks for your friendly feed back.

  • It is not hard to repair without removing from the coach. Also, I have yet to see an RV that could not go out the main door. With a MH you might have to remove the passenger seat, but it will go out the door.
  • They should be able to replace the cooling unit with the fridge still in the RV. It doesn't take much room (I've done it in a small TT).
  • I just found out today that I need my fridge repaired or replaced. I think I am going to just have it repaired as I already have replaced a lot of things on it. The repair man said it will need a new cooling unit. Also told me to shop around and find my own and he would put it in for me. He said I could find it cheaper than he could. No, I do not have the extended warranty. He said for him to get the unit and install it would run about $3,000. new fridge would run around $5,000.

That is outrageous! 1200-1500 for a new refer even from camping world. Installation should take no more than three-four hours worth of labor. Even at a hundred dollars a hour that is less than 500 dollars labor.
