Roadside Assistance

I used our RA while up in Yosemite Nat'l Park last month. My car battery had died, while it was about 45 degrees out in the mountains with 2 kids. I didn't really know what was wrong, I was 20 miles from our cabin and and all your service wanted to do was tow me another 50 miles down the mountain.

So, the tow truck never showed up. Luckily somebody came by nearly 2 hours later and gave us a jump start and I was able to travel and get a new battery in Oakhurst. Your RA knew I was stranded in the mountains with 2 kids and never even bothered to check on us; and I never even passed the tow truck on the way down the mountain. I wrote to you the next week when we got home about this, and I never even got a response; yet you sent me an email to renew the service that is good until August!

Tell me again why I cancelled my AAA service for this?
  • Thats pretty shabby. I dont know how GS pays out to the service companys, but it sounds like some have been burned by them and just dont show up, or really drag their feet to get there. Either way thats unacceptable. Yea auto reply dont it make you feel warm and fuzzy!
  • Good Sam, Coach Net, AAA....they're all the same. Know them for what they are....you are paying for their ASSISTANCE in finding a local service provider for you in time of need. You could do the same for yourself through a Google search. It's just that using their service makes life easier for you in your time of need. One call does it all...sounds catchy huh.??..the roadside assistance provider has zero control over the responding company, so it's a******shoot whenever you need assistance. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug.

From my experience as a LEO, I know AAA has a rotating list of providers. This prevents someone from sending their buddy on all the easy/expensive calls. I'm sure GS and CN do likewise. Always remember to have your location, (GPS coordinates are no good as they call a provider based on a map locator), the nature of your problem and whether you're in a safe environment before you call. If possible, ask them to call you back once they've identified the service provider and call that provider's dispatch. Give THAT dispatcher your GPS coordinates. That will assist their driver in finding you....if their service is acceptable, I tip the driver accordingly. Regardless, a cold beverage, water or soda, is usually appreciated.....Dennis

Good luck with that, left me stranded, never showed, and to add insult to injury, when I tried to get reimbursement the tow service said they showed and changed the tire, when in fact they did not. If I wanted to pay out of pocket I would not have paid for their service.
  • Most definitely an Oooops. For years I have enjoyed both Motorhome Magazine and Trailer Life, and have read the "ask for help" section, as it is both informative and sometimes entertaining when you read between the lines. (JMHO). It would, in my mind, be informative and reassuring if the 'ADMINISTRATOR' could post resolutions to problems and complaints.
Just an idea that has been put forth before by others being mentioned again.
  • Hello TheLadyFreedom,

I sincerely apologize for the trouble you experienced. I do see we responded to your email and began the process of having our roadside team look into this for you. The notations state that someone reached out to you the 9th but I have forwarded your information back over and requested that we have someone reach out again. Thank you

  • We were considering AAA and GSRA but then talked to our Farmer's agent who told us that we are already covered for any breakdowns so no need to get additional coverage.
