Roadside assistance?

Been paying the fee for roadside assistance for about 5 years, what a joke. Blew a front tire about 60 miles from home. Called gs to see what they could do for me in this stressful situation. After needing to punch many buttons, loosing the phone connection a few times, talking gs people who didn't really seem to appreciate my situation, I have decided to not renew this service or lack thereof. Seems that if I have a good area phone book I can do much more, faster and better that these people can. What a waste!

Some members seem to struggle with that idea.

  • What happened was, as best I can recall, I called the phone number, got an automated request to enter my card number, during this procedure the call was dropped, it was hot, windy and very uncomfortable, difficult to hear. After calling them back, was placed on hold, after lengthy delay was told that someone else from gs would be calling me. In the meantime, sheriff deputy arrived, suggested I could lock up, leave my rv right there on the road take my jeep home and get it repaired the next morning. This is what I did. What I came to realize is that if I would become just a little more proactive, I have more motivation to call people and get things done than someone sitting in an office many, many miles away. Having this good sam roadside assistance gives me exactly no peace of mind, which was the whole idea of purchasing it in the first place. I drove home, looked in a phone book, called the nearest tire dealer, called their emergency number, arranged to have them work on my tire the following morning and by noon the next day I was rolling into my front yard. Total cost less that 300 dollars which includes a sausage and cheese biscuit.
  • The problem with any road side assistance program is that you are at the mercy of the person you talk to. Some will work with you and provide excellent service while others seem to that that you are a bother and interrupting their day. I'm sure there are others that fit in between and provide mediocre service at best.

  • Elondo, You really didn't tell us what was wrong with the service. Can you explain further what GS did and didn't do?
  • Hello Elondo,
I apologize that you have had such a poor roadside experience. Could you please send me a private message with your membership information? I would like to share this with our leadership team for review and follow up.

    Thanks,
    Tom
  • A friend of mine once said to me, What idiot carries a spare tire and a jack in their motorhome? I responded I do but you can call me too if you need my services! HAHAHA!
