Rv parks/campgrounds SF to Santa Fe NM

Were going to Santa Fe NM from SF in May and need a string of places to stay in our RV along the way. We are new to RVing so need some help.

  • The route you plan on taking would help us narrow the areas to recommend campgrounds. Interstate hwy or back roads? Here's how we plan: 1. plan the route on www.googlemaps.com 2. determine how often you want to stop. We drive about 4 hours per day or 250-300 miles. Look for towns near that stopping point. 3. Look up the town on www.woodalls.com and make note of 2 or 3 choices. 4. Read the reviews on www.rvparkreviews.com to make final choice. We always have 2 options in case one is full or we don't like it. Then we either program the GPS or we write down the directions and campground info for each leg on separate sheets of paper. Also helps if you locate fuel stops and pre plan them somewhat.
  • Welcome Paul. Your request from San Fran to Santa Fe really depends on some more information from you.

What route do you want to take?
Are you driving straight thru or do you want to sitesee? What are your interests?
National parks? State parks? Private RV parks?
Do you want to just stay on interstates or travel some scenic roads?
How much time do you have?
How many hours per day do you want to drive?
What kind of RV will you be traveling with?
  • Can't help on your route to Santa Fe, but Santa Fe Skies RV Park is a good place to stay in Santa Fe. Just off I-25 south of the city and easy access to downtown Santa Fe. We would stay there again.
Gets good reviews on rvparkreviews.com. Check it out there.

Edit: I would also ask the moderator to move this to the "Roads and Routes" forum or the "RV parks, National Parks, State Campgrounds and More" forum for better responses.
  • Hello paulre49,

Thank you for writing in! The best place to start would be www.goodsamclub.com. Under the Plan a Trip tab there is the Find a Campground option you can click on. Just type in the city and state of where you would like to stay and it will bring up lots of options for you, both Good Sam and non Good Sam parks. I hope this helps and please let me know if you need anything else at all! Have a great weekend and safe travels!
