Seeking assistance/suggestions with a GSRA provider pblm
I currently have road side emergency assistance from Good Sam. I am having an issue with a low oil level alarm going off in my 1999 American Eagle. I found a location to check out the alarm and called Good Sam Roadside Assistance (GSRA) to have the RV towed to this shop. The GSRA Rep on the phone indicated that the issue sounded like a faulty sensor and they would call a mobile mechanic to go and check it out and replace the sensor. Best part about this was I had to be onsite when the mechanic arrived. I explained that I lived two hours away and the GSRA rep insisted I had to be on site and to call when I was one hour away so they would call the mechanic. I called when I was one hour away and then arrived onsite and had to wait another 30 minutes before GSRA called me back to let me know it would be two hours before the mechanic could arrive.
The mechanic arrives on site and right away I should have known this was going to be bad news. He had on bathroom slippers and no diagnostic equipment. Then he tells me that I needed to find out the engine serial number and to call him with this serial number so he could find the correct part to replace the sensor. I asked how do you know it is a sensor and he said that is what GSRA told him. I asked him are you going to look at the engine and he said no need to. So, I call Spartan with the RV VIN and they give me the engine serial number and I call the mechanic. It is now 1pm and I have been on site 5 hours.
Two hours pass and I call the mechanic again and he tells me he has the parts and is heading back to the location to replace the sensors. Now, he has determined it is two sensors without ever looking at the engine? Two more hours pass and it is now 5pm and the shop where my RV is located is getting ready to shut down for the day so I call the mechanic again. He tells me it will be easier for him to replace the sensors at his shop and to drive the RV there. So, now I am back to my original dilemma, can I drive it or not? Well, we are leaving on Thursday morning and this is Tuesday evening now and I need the RV fixed, so I drive it to his shop. Let's just say I was driving to a section of city that a RV is viewed by the lions like they are looking at a wounded zebra.
He tells me he will call me in the morning when it is fixed. So, next day at noon, still no call so I contact him. They had a few emergencies so he is behind but he is getting on it in a few minutes. Forward to 4pm and I call him again. He is under the RV (he tells me) and will have the work finished in about 15 minutes. I asked him so I can make the drive to pick it up today? Yeah, no problem, so my wife drives me the two hours. We get to his shop to find nobody there and the RV sitting out front not locked up. I look around and cannot find anyone, so I call his cell, no answer. I kept calling and he finally answered and said I have been trying to contact you (I have no calls on my cell). I said how much is the bill and where are the keys (getting to be nightfall and not best part of town). Well, the RV is not fixed. The part store gave him the wrong sensors and he doesn't think it is a sensor problem anyway as he sees a small oil leak that he thinks is causing the sensor to alarm. But, he will jump on it first thing tomorrow morning and have it fixed by 10am. I believe there is ZERO percent chance of that happening. Honestly, I don’t believe he has even looked at the engine and it has been two days.
I have tried to call GSRA to discuss this with someone, but keep getting sent to a dispatcher. What number can I call to have someone at GSRA help me with this issue? The other RV’s that we were supposed to be traveling with today have already left and we have a reservation beginning this evening that has been paid for and cannot be cancelled.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
