Spray on solar panels

A couple of University of Alberta just announced development of a new technique using nano particle technology that uses spray on technology. While still in the development stage in means you could have a coated tarp that you just lay on the ground for boon dockers, window shades, even the whole roof of your motor home turned into solar panels. It is still in the development stages and not yet as effective as silicone panels, but is far cheaper and more energy effective to produce, not requiring the multiple heat stages to produce that silicone panels require. This process is simply mixed up as a slurry and sprayed on with an automotive spray gun.
Full details are at. cbc.ca And go to the science and technology section

Moderator.. Thought I was in tech section when I posted. Can you move please. Thanks

me too. Not sure if I could afford it, but shingles is the only way I would do it with the wind around here.

This is SPRAY on ! Unaffected by wind. Could do the whole roof of the MH.

  • Very interesting concept. Light sabers were recently invented I read so Star Wars can met reality if given enough time. :)
  • Hi,

"printing" solar panels has been promised for year after year. Somehow it never makes it to the market place.

It is a nice technology and uses low cost materials(compared to silicon)--with a trade off of much lower percentage of conversion rates.

I believe that Unisolar drove themselves under by trying to offer solar shingles. It is important to invent something that is needed.
  • Not only is our Beer revered but also our nano technology. Read em and weep!
