We were told by a AAA roadside service agent that Good Sam was getting out of the emergency roadside service gig. I don't know if that is true or not, but we had need of their service back on 8/23.
It was a real hot day, 97 degrees on the highway, and one of our tires on the fiver had a catastrophic blowout. No warning on the tire sensors or anything. It was like a gunshot when that puppy blew!
Fortunately it was on the inner real dual of the trailer and it did little damage. However we were on the roadside of busy I-75 for three and a half hours. The whole thing about it's a law for vehicles to move over in Florida wasn't working!
We called Good Sam immediately and they dispatched a tire company to bring a new tire and change it out. It took 90 minutes to get to us on a Saturday afternoon, and the tech was able to jack the axle and get the tires off. However, he was lacking the tool to get the tire off the rim so he had to go back to his shop to mount the new tire.
So, after three and a half hours and $597, we were back in the road. The G rated tire was sold at a reasonable price, and the rest was for the emergency service repair.
Good Sam did a good job in getting us on the road in this case! My tires are not old and I was surprised that the one failed to abruptly! But, the service tech told me that he has seen new tires fail in that manner given the heat of that day.
We were glad we had someone to call that day!!
