Thumbs down on new directory

I've used the Trailer Life Directory for years but am not happy with the new combined one. The problem is that it only mentions public campgrounds but gives no details about amenities. Therefore one cannot tell about hook-ups or much of anything else. I understand that this is Good Sam promoting their campgrounds but if that's the case might as well just make it a Good Sam directory with no pretense of fully informing us of all options. It's really not a "campground directory" it is a "Good Sam campground directory". I wish there was an alternative but haven't found one yet.

Hi - to clarify, the new directory lists all the campgrounds nationwide that were included in both the previous Trailer Life and Woodalls directories before they merged. None were taken out.

Also, we don't publish separate East or West versions of the directory because it's just not cost effective and would mean an increase to the overall price of the directories to our customers.

I understand a little abt what you're saying abt 2 books, but I think if you took a poll on a small amt increase might be surprised, also if it cost so much more then why did Woodall's do it for so many years, As they had 3 books whole US, E, W. I for 1 would be in agreement with paying $ 12 - 15 instead of $10. You still would have 3/4 of market on Guides

  • I appreciate the response from Good Sam and I understand that public campgrounds are listed free but it still doesn't change the fact that the Trailer Life Directory was of great usefulness to me and the new one is far less useful. I admit that we prefer public campgrounds for a variety of reasons yet we do use Good Sam parks and have used several on this present 2 month trip. I still need a directory that lists all campgrounds nationwide and the old Trailer Life did that.
  • Would like it in 2 sections too. Miss the info on public campgrounds. Seems to have less info and more ads for resorts rather than campgrounds. Hardly ever use the directory now - I just go on-line. Might not buy another directory and I have purchased the "Trailer Life" every year and the "Woodalls" every other year since 2000.
  • The only thing i don't understand is why they (Marcus) didn' t follow the Woodalls format 2 BOOKS EAST -WEST MISSISSIPPI. this thing is a bear to have co pilot read from fr seat while moving. Have wrote to corp abt this no answer
  • Dear Jayco-nosilde
I'm sorry to read that you are not happy with the new combined Good Sam RV Travel Guide & Campground Directory.

As SDcampowneroperator responded the directory does include more than public and Good Sam Parks. We rate and inspect thousands of private parks each year that are listed in the directory too. Out of the 13,500 listings contained in the 2014 directory over 8,000 are private parks.

While complimentary listings, which include public parks, do have limited information, we do offer each one the opportunity to enhance their listing.

We always encourage RVers to call before arriving at any park to check amenities and availabilty no matter whether public or private.

If I can be of help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.

  • Please understand that public campgrounds are listed for free in the guide, with information they provide. They are not visited, inspected rated or reviewed by the account representatives.
The listing is a free service to them ; subsidized by the private camps in fhe guide who pay to list., whom are inspected annually
