Traveling farther, what to expect from GS Service Dept.

This is much a question to GS-Marcus as to those members who were similarly situated in the past and from your own experience.

I have the GS Extended Service Plan, Roadside Assistance, etc. etc. and will go on a longer 5 state travel with my RV and preparing myself for possibles need for GS-CW service just in case.

My first encounter with GW Service Dept was a big disappointment, that's an understatement.
and I wish I would not encounter the same at some other GW branches.

I bought my travel trailer from GW and after a few days I noticed that my running lights are no longer working. Remember it's on a warranty and I bought the extended service plan.

Granted that this is not an emergency, I was shunned to an appointment two weeks from the day I called. And they were not dissuaded to an earlier schedule since I'm making a camping trip to Yosemite in a week's time. Then when I finally went there, I was charged for the service even if I reasoned that the RV is just days old, it is still under warranty and I have an extended service plan.

He countered that it is a manufacturing defect and they are not a dealer (whaaaat! That don't even makes sense.)

But what is more galling is that the manager's attitude of not even making an eye contact giving that "I don't give ****" vibe.

Now, my specific question or concern is: if I call the nearest CW service department, will I be accommodated the same day or be shunned for weeks to an appointment? Over there, we can't afford to be stuck in a place waiting for this week long appointment and repairs.

As I told Marcus earlier, although I doubted he read it, service standards, specially for us who are nowhere near home, should be like Toyota in an emergency. You call, tow or take your car to their nearest service center, they'll give you a diagnosis of the repairs that need to be made, then give you timeline to when the job will be completed and if it will take long, they will schedule you into a shuttle van to take you wherever you need to go and arrange for a pick up at your designated time.

Maybe it's too much to expect that from CW but an immediate attention, same day appointment or overnight repairs if a little more complicated, will be alright. There is always Uber or a motel nearby and that's being reasonable.

  • If I read the contract correctly. The ESP only kicks in after the manufactures warranty runs out. So the manufactures warranty is always in the first position.

The sales pitch they use is, different components, of the RV have different manufactures warranties, time wise. So you would always be covered, without have to track which component warranty ran out.

And what I also found interesting in relation to your problem ( the lights) the ESP does not cover wiring, unless it is on the 110 side.

So as far as I can tell, having the ESP on a brand new rig, would do little for you as far as priority service. As it would come under the manufactures warranty at this point. And even if the manufactures warranty was out, and it was solely on the ESP, I would be shocked if they bumped you to the head of the line.
  • Not sure how asking the question is going to make the next experience better. You bought it there, got suckered into the extended and road service plans, and still paid for warranty work. You already have your answer....first hand experience.

I tried to purchase at 2 different Camping World locations in the past, actually 3. And every time was jacked around in one way or another. I can only imagine the service after the sale, as it sucks before the sale.
  • The extended plan and the roadside assistance are two separate things from what I've read.

If you have a breakdown and call their roadside assistance you are likely not going to be towed to a CW repair facility (it's generally the closest repair shop willing to service your RV).

Check your extended service plan and see how that will affect repairs. Such as, do you need to get approval prior to work done from other than CW, do you have to pay and request reimbursement, do you have to tow at your cost to a CW, etc.
  • read all the stories on here about service ,then you can make your own judgement. you,ve already had a sample ,you need more?
