Un-published GSRA policy that during "phase conditions"...

Is this comment from another Forum True?I
Good Sam Roadside Assistance
Run Away. Run Far Away. Good Sam Roadside Assistance provides excellent service...when THEY decide you need it. Not when you actually need it. Has NOTHING to to with your Emergency. Case in point: Apparently the GSRA service comes with an un-published policy that during "phase conditions" (words from the GSRA staff), they can cease all service calls across the Country...yes United States. This means that bad weather in ANY part of the Country will result in NO service to you, stuck on the side of the road. Sorry. This is the GSRA customer service policy, apparently. So, make sure to not have an Emergency situation when: it's raining hard in Seattle; there's a Tornado in Oklahoma; or, there's a snow storm in Boston....the list goes on and on and on. Please make sure to plan your "emergencies" accordingly and by all means, make sure they don't occur on a weekend. I was stranded for 5 days, YES 5 DAYS because weather in Tennessee and Massachusetts was bad. Sunny in my part of the Country. Too Bad for me; a "Phase Condition" (whatever the heck that is) was established so, too bad for me, GSRA customer. Oh, coincidentally I was told that the situation would "clear" by Monday! Really. How coincidental that the weather would clear when service providers are less costly. Run Away. Run FAR away.

  • the heck with those "side issues". is there a phase conditions issue or isn't there one? that is the crux, not if the OP was stranded or not.
IS THERE A PHASE CONDITION POLICY OR NOT?
    if so, define/explain it.

  • Lets first look at the issue. The original poster is on this discussion topic ( http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/28291873.cfm ) and stated "I was stranded on the side of the road for 5 days!" Um, no he wasn't, in a later post he said he left his trailer on the side of the road.

Here are the real questions - how many times did he attempt to get RA to his trailer. Could his "phase" claim be simply one of the standard messages we've all heard such as "Due to the extremely high volume of assistance calls we are unable to fulfill your request immediately." We all know what the weather has been like this past winter and there were definitely times when ANY call center could have been flooded to the max. Did the original poster EVER call back over those 5 days and attempt to get help again?

This is really sounding like the original poster, ptwymer, is really ticked off that his lack of preventative maintenance on his trailer resulted in dry bearings and a freeze up on one wheel and then finding out he couldn't get help in the next 30 second sound bite AND heaven forbid would have to pay for the repairs.

RA is a contract. I'm not buying the "unwritten policy".
  • Good Sam representatives are very quick to post on here asking for a private message, so the obviously read these forums.

WHY DON'T THEY POST ON HERE CONFIRMING OR DENYING A "PHASE CONDITION" POLICY
  • Hmmmm, not sure GSRA will jump in here because the OP is not asking for assistance from them. I would like to hear the entire story even though I am not a subscriber of GSRA.
  • I'm sure there's more to the story, but I've watched a lot of towing shows on TV and they know they'll be busy during bad weather days. That's when they expect to make their money. I wonder of tow providers don't raise their rates during those times because of demand? Maybe higher then Good Sam is willing to pay?
  • I agree. There is more to this story than you and I know at this time. Hope GSRS hops in here with an explanation. I would not publish a complaint on every web site available until more is known. Come on GSRS, defend yourself.
  • There is far more to the story than the OP "ptwymer" is stating, just wait for the whole story before jumping to conclusions. The WHOLE country...come on!
