Ways to Save on Fuel at Pilot Flying J

We have not found a Pilot or Flying J that allows scanning the goodsam membership card for the $.05 discount, yet. Are we missing something. We scan the card, displays says see the clerk, we go in and prepay (PIA).
We have traveled accross the US twice in two years.

    You need to swipe your credit card first. It then asks for your loyalty card. However, the largest discount (14 cents on diesel) is available if you get the Pilot/Flying J/Goodsam credit card.

    I ALWAYS get the discount everywhere I've used Flying J. Even when you have to see the clerk, I present my GS card and the .05 cents/per gallon is deducted. You must be doing something wrong?
