Today I received an email from Good Sam for member renewal. I will try to relay the content.On the top in a red circled box it says:Account Status: Payment is now due to continue your Good Sam Club membership. Please pay your membership dues now to enjoy all the great member benefits that the club has to offer.after that there is this paragraph:Dear NICKYour Good Sam Club membership expires soon. Payment is now due to continue your full member privileges, including-INSTANT discounts on gas, diesel and much more at select Pilot and Flying J locations with the NEW SWIPE & SAVE Good Sam Club membership card, discounts at over 2,100 Good Sam RV Parks and Campgrounds, savings of up to 30% at Camping World SuperCenters and MUCH MORE.At the bottom it says the following:Plus, when you renew right away, you will receive your NEW SWIPE & SAVE Good Sam Club membership card that gives you INSTANT discounts on fuel directly at the pump.But it's important to take care of this right away. Please pay your Good Sam Club member dues by 3/25/14. I went and checked and my membership is good through August of 2014.Didn't realize Good Sam Club was so hard up for money that they have to resort to this type of marketing.

Conversely, we are lifetime members and haven't gotten any such solicitations - nor have we gotten any "swipe & save" card nor an offer for one. Not a big deal for us, really, but it does seem that lifetime members should get a card...As far as being hard up for money, we've being getting solicitations from many other organizations to re-up, months before our membership expires. And magazines have been doing that for years. Not sure if it means anything or not, though of course the economy is still pretty bad.

Most magazine drive you crazy with renew letters that come 8 months before your your due date. I wonder how many people are getting ripped of by blindly renew their subscription several times a year. It is getting to be an epidemic.

For fuel: The GS card is more convenient at the truck pumps.

Good Sam Fuel discounts vary on gas/diesel only at Pilot AFAIK: Good Sam Member 4/6 cents Canada 1/1 cents, Good Sam Life Member 6/8 cents Canada 2/2 cents and Good Sam Elite Member 7/9 cents Canada 2/2 cents. Use your fuel, membership and CC rewards for your comparison.

I get 5% fuel cash back on my credit card at almost all fuel stations.

As organizations get bigger their top management becomes bloated with the accompanying high salaries. They become inefficient and they have to start prostrating themselves to the almighty dollar so they starting endorsing all sorts of things. Take AARP for example. AARP now is nothing but an endorsement machine for anyone that will pay them. Good Sam take note.

Wbwood, I have no idea why my profile says I am a Good Sam Member except the fact that I was a member when I created the profile. Oh by the way, it doesn’t say I am a “Lifetime Member” it just has a link that says “Good Sam RV Club Member” that will take you to their website.

Their million dollars. I don't think it would save you much on your membership costs. They probably would still charge you the same amount.

My membership is due for renewal in two weeks. I started getting those letters in the mail back in November of last year. They waste more money in sending those out 5 months in advance...... If they waited until a month before it was due to renew, they could probably save a million dollars in expense.

My membership cards are just fine, don't need new ones. I just don't like being sent emails suggesting I will loose my membership if not paid by 3/25/14 when I am paid up through August

We also received an offer by mail very early (could have been as far as 6 mo before renewal) and I pitched it in the trash. Now that our membership is expiring at the end of the month, we have received no further renewal offer. I do know that I can renew online at anytime, however the timing of the offers seems confusing. I am not too concerned though as we probably won't renew as we have not used many Good Sam Park discounts as we workamp and sit 4-6 months at a time in one place. When we are on the road traveling more we would then reconsider it.

Good insight into how GS got started, I'm just sorry that it has evolved into a source of unwanted promotions, which might be necessary to keep it going?

I go out of my way to help other campers with or without GS stickers as I'm sure most of us do.

Fultimers, Your post doesn't make sense. You state you haven't been a member since 2005 yet the GS logo shows on your posts. I'm guessing their records still show you as a member or you've received a complimentary membership somewhere.

Pangea Ron, The GS club is a club that offers benefits to members. If I remember correctly it started when campers started helping other campers; hence, they were Good Sams. So the history of the club points to it being far more than just a means to a discount at CW. As a member you are free to use whichever benefits you choose. Personally, I use some of the benefits and I am always willing to help a fellow camper so I display the GS logo on my rig.
