I was just trying to find out what insurance would cost online and dummy me I left a "real" phone number. It started ringing at 6am the next day. And then for the next 3 days after I pleaded with the agents to stop calling and take me off the list the calls stopped. It was as bad a giving your number with a timeshare salesman. Is it really necessary to call back so much to a person who just wanted a quote?

Because cell phone numbers and the associated area codes are portable, the caller has little idea of your actual location. Also, little knowledge of whether or not the number you left is a cell phone or not. We just turn off the ringers when we don't want distrubed.On the other hand, I have finally gotten to the point where I don't answer any unrecognized numbers. If they really want they'll leave a message.

For those who wondered about time zone my phone number left had a FL area code so probably why they were calling so early as I live in PST. Again, forgot to use my google talk acct phone number that makes it impossible to contact me in any way except email. I never asked them to call me, I merely asked for an online quote and received it instantly online. I felt the tactic was kind of pushy and wanted to bring to the attention of Good Sam. Thanks for the replies.

You can't go by area code any more. Lots of people use cell phones now adays and many move and never change their number. Then you have fulltimers.

Because they don't have an area code map in India at the call center they sold your number to! :B

I got a quote from Good Sam to insure my TT. They were about 6x as much as Progressive.

On the plus side, I think they sold my contact information to Camping World, who then sent me 2 coupons for $25 off my purchase of $25 or more, so I feel I got a good deal.

I did not end up insuring my trailer with Good Sam.

After reading this, I got a quote from Good Sam simply out of curiosity. Good Sam insurance is almost twice what I'd pay for somewhat better coverage from Progressive. I think I'll stay with Progressive.

I have a NY area code here in AZ so if someone where to call me at 9 AM eastern time my phone would ring at 6 AM local time.

So the agent does not necessarily know where I am just where my area code says I should most likely be.
A simple I am no longer interested will stop the call from ever reoccurring.
