I have had Good Sam Roadside service for several years. I have been sent renewal notices for the six months prior to my renewal date. On the last day of service I received a call from the sales team and I renewed my service at the going rate. That afternoon I got a Camping World ad where I could renew for $60 less. Why the different rate? Why are long time customers not given the same break? I think next year I will stick with my AAA insurance.

It's none of the above that it is due to the economy and inflation and they need to raise the rates. Because all new members will get the lowest rate possible. I saw red when I became aware of this.

They jack up the renewal price all the time on existing members.

YET, a new member joins and they get the lowest rate possible.
Be with them for 10 years and they raise the rate come renewal time.

Yup that's the thanks for being a loyal customer. I have never seen any other company do business this way.

They raise your rates? Cancel and then come back and put it in your DW's name as a new member and get the lower rate and then have lots of kids and each year put it in a different kids name. :W:B

That was the point of the auto renew they are pushing. Auto renew generally has a price increase.

They have to pay for all the Good Sam Care team workers to tell you they are sorry for lack of service.:B

Nobody likes to be on the backside of teaser rates and the like. We see it with people telling us we should take Passport America by telling us to use it as marketing and then charge them full rate when they return. Or when someone tells us we should give them a big discount and we can make it up on the next guy. Well, eventually we are all the next guy.

Cost of customer acquisition.

Cell phone providers, cable TV, and radio and TV satellite providers also do this. In order to lure you into being their customer, companies offer lower rates to new customers.

Insurance companies are doing this, too, but not so obvious. They will offer rates lower than their competitors and then very slowly and without fanfare gradually raise the rate to one higher than their competitor.

Retail stores do this, too, by offering big discounts for opening a charge account. Of course, this is to get you to be their credit customer more than their retail customer.

You can win in this game by always being someone's new customer.

Marketing gimmick – Offer a low “teaser” rate ($79) to get you to first join when you’re in the market shopping for a service. Then hit you blindside with an overpriced makeup rate ($129) when you renew and are not actively shopping. Bad thing is they all do it, GS is not unique to this game. JMHO!

We will get noticed often of increases in goods and services. What I just love is when the notice indicates, "your annual rate for service will be adjusted this upcoming year". They don't have the bowls to say the word "increase".
