Why the rush?

My GS membership doesn't expire until October 2013, yet I'm getting email reminders to "renew NOW"

I know the profit motive behind this. You get my dues 3 months early and get to collect interest on my money - something that maybe everyone doesn't understand.

  • That is the reason I moved from Good Sam roadside assistance to Coach Net. I kept getting "new" cards all year long telling me my subscription had expired, when it hadn't. I got tired of all the junk mail. Now with Coach Net, I only get a renewal notice.
  • Yup, get that money early and invest it in a Long Term CD and earn 0.01%, or get lucky and get 10x that amount. :B
I'm getting magazine renewal notices with special offers if I renew before my December deadline. :E At least you know your mail delivery service still works.
    Happy Trails.

No, you are wrong. What they don't want is to loose you as a customer and find a replacement. It costs 3 times more to find a replacement customer as it does to keep an existing customer. So, to keep you focused on renewing, they bombard you early and often about renewing. At today's interest rates, it has nothing to do with returns on your money.

I am sure at today's interest rates they are making so much on it they can't wait for everyone to do it lol. Almost everywhere I have a subscription or pay dues, they let me know starting at 90 days. I am guessing GS must be slow at only 60 days.
  • It's already the middle of August. Doesn't seem unreasonable at all to me.
  • I don't know if this is a valid reason or not, but I imagine that GS deals with quite a few full timers. If it takes them 3-4 weeks for their mail to catch up, it could be a good reason for early mailing.
  • I don't know about there, but here everything that has to be renewed is sent out at least 3 months early. Even our license plate registration, etc. Macktee
  • Sounds like the rush to reorder magazine subscriptions.
