? About digital thermostat install

I am replacing my Duo Therm thermostat with a Honeywell digital.

I never use the low speed fan, only high speed.

I read on another post that the best way is to wire both the low and high speed wire (in my case Blue and Orange wires) to the G terminal on the Honeywell thermostat.

Is that the correct way to wire it?

  • When I did mine I use a heat pump thermostat and wired the high speed fan to the second compressor terminal. Than when the fan kicked to high speed automatically when the differential was reached.
  • I do not know if this will help, but a few years back I did this and used a mini Single Pole Double Through SPDT switch and put the wire to G to the middle terminal and the Low speed to the lower terminal and the High Speed to the upper terminal and it worked great. I had both speeds available. It does not seem correct to attach both hi and low speed wires together at terminal G. Hope this may help, Happy Trails Bert
  • I have just hooked up the a Hunter 42999 as shown on the diagram. My furnace is a Suburban, AC is Dometic. The furnace runs fine, but when hooking hp the low speed fan to the G terminal it runs but doesn't get into the cooling function. When hooking up the blue high speed nothing happens. I was thinking of hooking both to the G post but read above its not a good idea. Any thoughts?
  • My original Duo-Therm mechanical stat tied both wires together when high speed was selected by the switch. I haven't tried hooking just the high speed wire to the terminal to see what would happen.

Here's the diagram that gets posted frequently for the Hunter digital conversions. It can also be used for Honeywell digital conversions:

  • What about just hooking the high speed wire to the terminal and not using and taping off the low speed?
  • Its a bad idea to put both high and low speed wires on the same terminal but you aer correct, G is the fan circuit. Dutch has the best idea just add a small toggle from Radio Shack and one the speed you want, when you want.
  • Yes, that's the correct hookup for the high speed fan. I added a small toggle switch to our Honeywell stats to control the speed.
