04 Fleetwood Flair ignition switch

Anyone else had problems with a Fleetwood ignition switch? My Workhorse chassis Flair seems to be different than the ones discussed in the posts I've searched. My column, for want of a better term, looks 'European' with a large plastic shroud around it. I had hoped for the one with the GM rectangular switch on the column actuated by a rod from the key switch. This looks different.I'm not wanting to pull the steering wheel until I can find some info about it. I'm thinking the switch is underneath the wheel hidden by the shroud which needs the wheel off to remove.

  • Again, has anyone here replaced the ignition switch on a W22 chassis? Oemy's performance website has an article about it but references the P32 chassis and it appears to me that the two chassis have completely different steering columns as per the Workhorse owners chassis manual. There seems to be a lot of links about this issue but I cannot find one for the W22 chassis column. Anyone here done that yet? Help!
  • I haven't been able to get the shroud off because of the key switch. Doesn't the wheel have to be removed to release the key assembly?
  • With the chassis VIN a dealer should be able to give you the correct part.
  • The Workhorse owners manual shows two different columns for the P32 and W22 chassis. Mine is the W22. I'd be quite happy if someone here could tell me (from their own experience) which ignition switch I actually need. The 'pull it out and bring it in' from the dealer isn't what I want to hear....
  • Check with the experts at irv2 WH Forum. I believe all steering columns on WH chassis were the same in 04, and the electronics connector is under the shroud. You don't have to pull the steering wheel to get the shroud off.
  • I should add I did find one post that referred to what seems to be my column but the instructions they gave were lifted from a service manual and included references to another section that wasn't included in the post. Not much help!
