08 Monaco Monarch

Family members just bought a 2008 30' Monaco Monarch. Seems like a nice coach, on a Ford chassis, maybe they all are, 13k miles, very clean. Full wall slide and nice floor plan.

Curious to know if anybody knows of anything to look out for or any particular issues.

It doesn't have an inverter which surprised me, would it come pre wired for one?

It has a macerator which I know nothing about, any pros or cons.

Are there any chassis improvements that should be made.

The Flexsteel captains chairs look like bonded leather and the finish is flaking off and they look like they're only gonna get worse. has anybody dealt with that?

Thanks, Terry

  • Thanks for the responses, I will pass the information on. I've never used a macerator but they can try it and decide for themselves.

  • It should have an inverter/converter, as almost all newer Class A rigs do. If not, wiring "should" be in place to have one installed.

As for the Flexsteel chairs, you may want to check out new chairs at a RV furniture business in Long Beach, California. They may be cheaper than having your existing chairs recovered. The new chairs should bolt right in on your existing brackets.

The macerator is for grinding up waste and pumping it to a dump site that may be uphill or some distance from your RV. It also makes it easier for a septic system to begin the conversion process. Otherwise, a macerator isn't really needed. I had one on my boat (to pump up to a sewer system while at the dock), but I've never had one on my coaches and never needed one. So, it is up to you to use it or not.
  • Dealt with the captains chairs. There was defective material used during a certain time period. Our 2007 was affected. We bought chair covers at Camping World instead of having them recovered. We were shocked at how awful they looked after using the chair covers for about a year or so. They had gotten MUCH worse even with the covers on them. I can't even describe how bad they were. I'm afraid
your family members have 2 choices - buy chair covers or have them recovered. They will get worse over time.
