1977 GMC Brittany

So, the wife and just bought a 1977 gmc brittany class c motorhome and I can't find any information on it. I was just wondering if anyone had any information on this or perhaps where to find a book or something on this. I've tried doing a search for any information on it. So far the only thing I've been able to find on this is a brochure for sale on ebay. No real info.
  • I see these classic GMs occasionally on the road...but they are 40 years old.
  • Welcome to the forum.

When you caulk and seal the roof, use Dicor lap sealant on the flat areas. Cover the seams with Eternabond.

The use of silicone caulking is not recommended.
  • It's built on a GMC VanDura 35 chassis. I've already noticed some water damage. Mostly in the rear near the shower. I plan to gut that and replace everything. Gonna chaulk and seal the roof before I start to rebuild anything though. It is fairly small, but will sleep six which is more than enough for the two of us and our two kid. I was lucky enough to have several mechanics where I work and they went through the engine and transmission very well. They said everything on that seems sound and I shouldn't have any real trouble there. Literally everything in it works! Like you said though I just have to look out for water damage and get that taken care of.

He's right. Basically, if you can service the chassis, just about every RV builder used the popular appliances and other components of the day.

I did find a brochure Here and it seems to be a small Class C on a presumably one ton GMC van chassis. The one in the brochure has single rear wheels.

Roof, water leaks, and rot are the primary worries, in any RV, let alone one this old.
  • First, figure out what chassis the RV is built on and get a manual for that. Then go through the RV and note the make, model and serial number of everything: water heater, furnace, converter, etc. Use that info. to find manuals and info. online. That is the information that you really need to own the RV. (Try Bishko Books for the chassis manual.)
