1989 cruise control

Do you have the control module by the steering wheel column?

Whats wrong with it? The problem with mine was the rheostat on the front of the modulator. It worked intermittently then stopped. The rheostat is in the rubber boot where there is a twisted rod that comes out that connects to the cable that goes to the carb. After I cleaned it worked like new but I have got to clean it again because it is getting flaky again.

I installed many cruise controls over the years. The speedo cable was used until they came up with computers and used electronics for the speedo. Then they went to the magnets on the driveshaft. I still have one of the complete units in my garage. I think it is a Dana or Perfect Circle. I will check.

I haven't used the CC on the RV yet. It has taken more repairs then I though it did. I wanted a manual to make sure I am using the CC right. The CC on my 86 Coachmen used a dial and a on button to activate the CC. It was not very good. You had to move the dial to the speed you wanted. Just a little movement made the rig speed up or down by 5 mph. This one is different and wanted to make sure how it works. They both look like they were made by the same company. They use a pickup on the speed o meter cable for the RVs speed. No mag clamped on the drive line. Thanks

I have installed a few aftermarket CC's. As I recall they were made by Dana Corp. They had magnets that you glued on the drive shaft and installed a pickup on a bracket that had to have just the right air gap between the magnet and the pickup, this was the speed control that sent a signal to the brain box. Other then that, I don't remember too much. So if your's is a Dana, you might want to google dana and see what shows up.

Darn. I had installed a couple of those way back in the 80's, and I kept the manual until about a year ago. Tried to sell it on ebay, but nobody wanted it, so I threw it in the trash!
What problem are you having with the CC?
