- turbojimmyExplorerMy '84 Allegro has DSI, too. Not to say you can't replace it with a light-with-a-match pilot arrangement, but DSI is more convenient. Look for a switch near the sink - that will tell you. Assuming the wiring is still there it should be a pretty straightforward installation.
- bsinmichExplorerI had an '89 Jamboree (Fleetwood) and it came with DSI. I would expect a Pace Arrow would also have DSI.
- Golden_HVACExplorerHi,
I googled Suburban 6 gallon DSI water heater and came up with this model, seems like a great price!

$278 for a DSI water heater. Not bad, I need to replace the one in my 97 Bounder too, it should be the same size.
Yours might have come with a manual pilot, or DSI (direct spark Ignition) and have a switch near the stove hood to turn on the water heater from inside. (or control panel). You might have +12 from a switch inside marked water heater to the logical location for the water heater. Mine is below the furnace.
I don't think I can replace mine with a 10 gallon model, that is taller and slightly wider, because of it's basement location and being below the furnace. Yours might be different, as they built them different over the years.
IF yours was a manual light model, it would be simple install for another manual light model. It would require lighting with a match and has a standing pilot. That is not as safe while refueling - unless you turn it off before driving. I much prefer the DSI over the pilot model in my 85 motorhome.
Fred. - Robert78121ExplorerWith a motorhome that age don't worry about exact replacement parts. Chose the water heater that makes the most sense. Get the dimensions to make sure it fits, but other than that retrofit it for your application.
- Roman_DuckExplorerHot water heaters are pretty standard across the table, On the older MHs they were mainly gas,6 gal. in size.
There might be an option sheet affixed to a cabinet door, it might have the type, model number. Most likely an Atwood or a suburban. If it had an electric element;there should be a ac/gas switch near hot water heater switch inside, maybe on the range hood.
More info on your MH might get more response's Hope it helps
