1990 Class A, 460 Ford Vision by Rexhall- maintenance

I'm finding that though the previous owner had documentation on expenses totalling many thousands on this coach, very little went for the drivetrain. No recent oil change and I find very little oil on the tip of the dipstick. I did find the power steering reservoir and there was no fluid on the dipstick.
Of course I'm changing the oil and filter right away, but I can't locate where and how to check the brake fluid and where to locate the coolant return bottle. No sign of a radiator cap either! I have removed the cover on top of the doghouse but it looks like I will have to take out the whole doghouse to change the engine air filter; as of now I can see the back of it but can't service it with just the top cover of the doghouse off.
I called the Rexhall factory today. They were very pleasant but could not help me other than offer to sell me a "generic" manual, not specific for this rig.
Any advice on where to search would be appreciated, thanks!

PS--I will climb under tonight to try to find the master cylinder...
  • If you can not find the master cylinder, you really need someone to find it for you, and show you what they look like. It is under the hood, not under the RV.

The radiator cap is on the top left side of the radiator. It might be difficult to find the top of the radiator, many manufactures have rubber around the top of the radiator, so that all the air goes through the radiator and not around any of it.

My air filter is in front of the radiator, nowhere under the doghouse. I don't know if you have a GM or Ford chassis, I have a 97 Ford. It is important that the air intake is cold as possible, and mine is in front of the radiator for that reason.

I would recommend changing out all the brake fluid, rear axle oil, and transmission fluid flush. Lube all the steering, u-joint and other zerk fittings. The power steering fluid probably has never been changed. This will bring you up to date.

  • The brake fluid reservoir should be located in the drivers side front wheel well on the frame.
