Regarding towing the Volt: I would make sure that it can be flat-towed (all 4 wheels on the ground). I would do a seach. There is an annual towing guide that specifically states what makes/models/transmission-types can be towed that way. You'd need a tow dolly otherwise.
About the 1992 Adventurer: It has a GVW of 18,000 pounds and a CGVW of 24,000 pounds, which means that the chassis has a 6,000-lb towing capacity.The bad news: The actual towing receiver is only rated for 3,500 pounds. That Volt will be slightly over the limit.
