Well,it's been a learning experience since we brought it home! I cleaned up every electrical connection under the hood. Used a steel brush on an elecric drill, which worked excellent. Replaced the two 30A breakers, also. They were shot. Replaced the coach battery. Replaced the starter, coil and control board on the genny. Tore the carb(genny) apart and cleaned it. It was gummed up solid in the wide open position. Now, it runs perfectly! Oh, and DO NOT HESITATE to unbolt the genny and drag it half way out of it's cubbyhole if you are gonna work on it. I replaced the starter without taking it out and it was a MAJOR PAIN IN THE BUTTOCKS! So, I can say from lots of experienced (I dragged it out TWICE in the last week) that if you need to mess with the starter or coil, it pays to pull it out. I only pulled it out about halfway because of the exhaust. But it was plenty enough to get at the coil and starter.
The cap and rotor on the 454 were Real Worn Oot! It's amazing how much easier it starts and runs now after replacing them! The plugs were brand new.
Had a front brake job done, to the tune of 900 bucks. But, it needed it. The rotors are extremely expensive. I had them replace the master cylinder, too. They also rotated the tires.
Replaced the converter, the old one was one heavy, humming beast!Plus it weighed more than my first girlfriend. The new one is virtually silent. I believe its a 45W. The old one was a 40W.
We really had a tough time finding wipers to fit. I finally bought a pair and adapted them to fit. I have to drill two small holes and install two tiny bolts, but after that, we will be able to replace them easily. The new ones are solid rubber..no mechanical type of old. '
That's aboot it. Need to replace the exhaust hanger on the genny, a fuse for the flashers. We are leaving this Saturday for a trip from OR to Myrtle Beach, then to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, then back to OR. Around 7000 miles. Will be towing a Goldwing/Sidecar rig. So if you see a stubby Flair with a red motorcycle/sidecar rig on a trailer, wave like a lunatic!
