There are 3 wires going to the back of the red switch. A blue,a white and a purple wire.
The other poster only has 2 wires on his red step switch. The third wire may be to support a "lighted switch" that illuminates only when on. The two wire switch may not have a light inside the switch. I replaced my 3 wire illuminated switch with a non-illuminated switch and only used two of the three wires.
